ANNOUNCEMENT: Clarissa Street Reunion Festival Is Postponed
The 25th Annual Clarissa Street Reunion originally scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2020, has been postponed to Saturday, August 21, 2021 due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
Background:
The increasing rate of coronavirus infections in the United States, especially in New York State, has motivated the Clarissa Street Reunion Committee to postpone the 25th Reunion Festival.
Coronavirus Economic Impact:
Shelter-in-place directives, travel restrictions and social-distancing measures have combined to drive a sharp reduction in spending by individuals, businesses and service organizations. The dramatic reduction in non-essential spending across all increased the challenge of raising money to support the reunion as prospects prioritize support to address the medical and economic impacts of coronavirus infections on their employees and Rochester residents in general.
COVID-19 Morbidity Rate:
The most severe cases and the highest rates of death due to COVID-19 are among the elderly. Although 17% of the U.S. population is 65 or older, 31% of the most severe cases are in this age group (CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report). While New York State is on the leading edge of the coronavirus infection wave, recent projections suggest the peak in “daily new infections” for all of the United States will be during the late July to early August timeframe.
A significant percentage of Clarissa Street reunion attendees are 65 years or older. Though we are concerned about the health impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on people of all ages, the committee is particularly focused on eliminating the likelihood of increasing infections among attendees 65 years and older.
We wish everyone good health and the best possible outcome as we work through the coronavirus pandemic. It is important that we all strictly adhere to the social distancing guidelines issued by New York State and the Center for Disease Control.
